Recipe: Hershey’s Especially Dark Chocolate Layer Cake

Chocolate layer cake coolingI love dark chocolate. So whenever I get one of those Hershey’s sampler bags with milk chocolate, Special Dark, Mr. Goodbar and Krackle, I always hoard the Special Dark mini-bars. I absolutely adore them!

A few weeks ago, I got myself my first set of 8-inch cake pans at the President’s Day Sale at the nearby Calphalon Outlet Store. I have been searching for the first layer cake recipe to try and when I came across this one by Hershey’s, I knew I had found gold! Now, while the recipe calls for a 9-inch set of pans, I was able to make it work in my smaller set. I just had to carefully level the cakes, once they had cooled, since they had risen so much from the pans.

Now, here’s the rest of the recipe:

Yummie's exterior signA little over an hour’s drive away from Boston is a candy lover’s paradise, located in Kittery, Maine. Foodie Destination: Ghirardelli Square

Ghirardelli Square SignNo trip to San Francisco is complete without taking a few nibbles of chocolate from those chocolate dream-makers at Ghirardelli. However, Ghirardelli isn’t just one store. It’s an entire square just steps from the Bay City’s waterfront, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

I have never been to SF before so when I found I’d have a little free-time after a work conference, I had to make the most of it. Trolley ride, dim sum and a stroll through Chinatown, and a famous Ghirardelli hot fudge sundae straight from the source.

I’m no stranger to Ghirardelli’s decadent treats. I’ve enjoyed their sundaes already at their locations at Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World and on the Miracle Mile in Chicago. Ghirardelli’s sundaes are special because theyLombard Street in San Francisco make their own hot fudge and you can select milk or dark chocolate. The result is a dessert that will have you licking up every last morsel of fudgy goodness.

After being coaxed into a little second story restaurant in Chinatown and enjoying a quiet, yet great dim sum meal, I took the old-fashioned cable cars down to the wharf area. Our trip took us past Lombard Street, the famous avenue with eight hairpin turns. The end of the Powell-Hyde Cable Car line is just a short, two-block walk to Ghirardelli Square.

Recipe: Fruit and Candy Pizza

Everyone loves pizza. And, everyone loves cookies. Why not combine the two?

This is my recipe for a popular potluck dessert or a special treat for the office. You can use any type of cookie recipe and toppings that you like – just like you make your favorite Italian pizzas with sausage, pepperoni or just cheese. To make it even easier (if you really aren’t that adept at baking), just buy the tubes of cookie dough and flatten into a pizza shape.

A peek at Epcot’s Karamell-Küche

Entrance to Karamell-Kuche at EpcotI’m very happy to introduce this next guest blog. A few week’s ago I posted a video from Disney Parks that takes a sneak peek inside Karamell-Küche, or caramel kitchen, at Epcot’s Germany pavilion in World Showcase. This is the only free-standing shop for Werther’s, which is run by Storck.

My husband’s cousin, Ronna Larsen, just returned from a trip at Walt Disney World. She has some great photos and a quick review of this new destination!

Take it away, Ronna!

Before you even walk into Karamelle-Küche (The Caramel Kitchen), in the Germany Pavilion at Epcot, you are entranced by the sweet smell of caramel corn being made. Besides caramel corn, you can watch chocolate/caramel-dipped strawberries and a variety of caramel apples being made.
